It’s never too late to give back and that is most certainly the case when it comes to Sunshine Window Cleaning. We may first come to mind whenever someone thinks of windows, but window cleaning services are only one area where we have proven our commitment to doing good things in the community! Recently, we had the honor of providing our window cleaning services for Simply Cats, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cats in need. With every effort they make towards rescuing cats, rehabilitating them into loving homes, and hosting Open House events throughout their network – Sunshine Window Cleaning was more than happy to jump at the chance to help!
History of Simply Cats
Simply Cats is a nonprofit that got its start (with just six cats!) as Just Strays Animal Foundation, Inc. in the late 1980’s. By 2005, the name of the shelter was changed to Simply Cats Adoption Center to reflect its feline-only animal population.
Thanks to generous donors, Maureen Howe and Dick & Yvonne Lierz, by 2007, a new state of the art building was constructed, donated and has been their home ever since. Today, Simply Cats Adoption Center shelters over 100 cats and kittens and operates due to the hard work of a small staff and over 100 dedicated volunteers.
Their current facility houses 10 adoption rooms that are cageless and have an indoor-outdoor (contained) concept. At any one time, each adoption room generally houses 8-10 cats. In addition, they have 3 smaller indoor only adoption rooms that are utilized as necessary. The building also houses designated quarantine, isolation, holding and exam room areas. These designated ward rooms are utilized for sick cats, and cats awaiting veterinary approval to be put out for adoption.
Simply Cats is a no kill, no cage, limited admission facility meaning they only accept a certain number of cats at any given time. Whereas an open admission animal shelter may euthanize animals for any number of reasons. They also provide all the medical care to every cat that comes into the facility to make sure they are in the best health when adopted. They include vaccines in the adoption fee so that they can continually bring them back to finish the process. The average length of stay for a feline is about two to three weeks. Senior cats typically stay the longest. Kittens sometimes can be adopted as quickly as 5 min after they’ve been posted on the website.
Since Simply cats is a nonprofit they operate on donations, funds are constantly going back to the cats and their most pressing bills. This means that windows cleaning doesn’t make the budget. Which is why they were so grateful to see their windows shining again. It’s quite a task to manage tight resources and keep things going so well for those adorable little felines.
Sunshine’s Helping Hand
The team at Sunshine Window Cleaning recently lent a hand to the Simply Cats. They provided power washing, gutter cleaning, and window cleaning both interior and exterior. This effort was greatly appreciated by the people of Simply Cats who shared pictures and thanked them profusely on social media. Power washing helps revitalize old surfaces and make them look brand new, which was much needed for some of the spaces at the cat rescue shelters served by Simply Cats. Not only did Sunshine power wash their sidewalks and garden area, but at the last minute decided to power wash the building to make sure it looked the best it can. Gutter cleaning ensured that downspouts draining off roofs were free from debris so water could pass through freely after it rained. Lastly, window cleaning of the interior and exterior was performed with great care, leaving the windows gleaming with no streaks or smears left behind.
The Power of Community Service
In today’s world, it’s easy to get lost in our own lives and forget about those around us. But by performing acts of goodwill like this one between Sunshine Window Cleaning and Simply Cats, we can remind ourselves that there is always something bigger than our individual troubles — something bigger than ourselves. This kind of gesture between the two businesses is a testament to the power of community service; when everyone works together towards a common goal, it can make a big difference.
Volunteer opportunities at Simply Cats are an excellent way to make a difference in the life of a homeless feline. Whether you volunteer your time or donate much-needed supplies, there are numerous ways to contribute to the organization’s mission. Volunteer opportunities range from room cleaning, shelter care, enrichment to gardening. Donations are also always needed and can be as small as a bag of cat food or as large as donating money to fund programs. Another option is to become a foster. Simply Cats need fosters who can provide care and support for the kittens that arrive at their shelter until they are old enough to be adopted. They provide all the resources you need. Whether it’s food, supplies, medical services, and support while the kittens are in foster care. Even if you don’t have the means to foster or adopt, assisting in other ways is sure to be greatly appreciated by all the furry friends!

Charity work has many benefits beyond just helping your local community — it also helps show potential customers that you care about more than just profits. Sunshine Window Cleaning and Simply Cats have reminded us of all what really matters: giving back to those in need when you are able to do so.
